In a procedural move surely to cause controversy among Kershaw County residents on both sides of the debate, County Council will reconsider the mask ordinance recently voted down 2-4 at upcoming Council meeting.
Despite assurances that the mask ordinance was a "one and done" vote, a procedural clause buried deep in the resolution allows the vote to be reconsidered if one of the losing parties asks to have it placed on the agenda.
Several new developments have led Council to reconsider the vote.
One councilman, who wishes to remain anonymous, indicated that he struggled with the vote, and even had several of his church members share their thoughts on the mask issue with him in the days leading up to the vote. "I had several Facebook messages that accused me of "flip flopping" on the issue. That's not true. I knew going into the vote that I was either going to vote for it or against it, and I was certain of that. As we move forward with a second vote, my position is even more solid, and I'm confident that my vote either for or against the resolution will be exactly what a portion of my constituents want."
Another member of Council, who also spoke "off the record" did not wish to be identified, has this to say: "As I leave Council after the elections, I want to be known for taking a stand on the important issues. I have carefully considered this vote, and I have decided that I will changing my vote, and will instead vote "Present" when the issue comes before us again.

In unrelated business, Council heard an update on the virus numbers from KershawHealth and approved an emergency spending request brought forth by Vic Carpenter on behalf of the School District and the Sheriff's Department for the purchase of 12 School Crossing Guard Bio-hazard Suits like the ones pictured here.
The suits, with a price tag of $11,273 each, will be paid for from funds
